How to increase the maximum payload of F-250?
Each truck is designed around the weight rating of its classification. A truck should be able to carry this weight safely. The Ford F-250 is rated as a 10,000-pound truck. This means that the total weight of the F-250 plus the load that it can carry safely is 10,000 pounds.
Therefore, to get the maximum payload of any trim or model of the F-250, we simply deduct the curb weight from 10,000. If the curb weight of the 2022 4WD Ford F-250 XLT is 6,466 pounds, then the maximum payload that it can safely carry is 3,534 pounds.
We got the maximum payload by subtracting the curb weight of 6,466 pounds from 10,000 pounds. Therefore, if you want to increase the maximum payload, you will have to make your F-250 lighter.
How to calculate the curb weight of a Ford F250?
If you didn’t see your year and model listed, or you have made modifications to your ride, then there is a simple equation you can use to calculate curb weight.
Your truck’s GVWR can be found in the door pillar on the driver’s side. The GVWR is the maximum weight allowed for your truck once fully loaded with passengers and equipment. You can see how curb weight and GWVR differ in the graphic below.
Why knowing your truck weight is important?
If you don’t know what your Ford F250 weight is, you can run the risk of putting too much strain on it. That makes for very dangerous driving.
As an example, whilst the braking system on the F250 range is very good, and has been tested extensively by Ford, if you are over-loaded, your stopping distances are drastically reduced.
You can also damage your truck and end up having to shell out a lot of money on repairs and fixes.
Common repairs required after over-loading a truck can include:
- Frame damage
- Suspension problems
- Chassis damage
- Worn and damaged tires (possibly due to low pressure in some cases)
- Wheel problems
- Frame cracking
