Do keep in mind, although these supercars are excruciatingly scarce, they might not be the rarest cars in the world. If we were to cover such a topic, this list would just feature one-off Paganis, absurd classic cars, and the entire Sultan of Brunei’s car collection.

20. Ferrari 250 GTO ~ $70 Million
Ferrari produced only 36 units of the 250 GTO during its 2-year production run that lasted from 1962 to 1964. Produced mainly for homologation into the FIA’s Group 3 Grand Touring Car segment, the 250 GTO was so exclusive you couldn’t buy it without Enzo Ferrari’s approval.
An icon of the automotive world, the F250 GTO is highly revered in the industry, and it’s currently the world’s most expensive Ferrari, as it got sold for $70 million in 2018 at a private sale.
19. 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing ~ $6.8 Million
Described as the ultimate production version of Mercedes-Benz’s most iconic creation, the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing is a league of its own. In late February 1954, then Mercedes-Benz Chief of Engineering Dr. Fritz Nallinger, suggested the production of a unique 300 SL for privateers and that signaled the birth of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Alloy Gullwing.
Mercedes produced only 24 units of the Alloy Gullwing in 1955 while five more units got added in 1956. Extremely rare, since owners are never parting with the car, a unit of the 1955 Alloy Gullwing got sold for $6.8 million at the RM Sotheby’s Scottsdale auction in 2022.
18. Ferrari F40 LM ~ $5 Million
Just as with the McLaren F1 LM, the Ferrari F40 LM was a souped-up Ferrari F40 destined for the Le Mans race. The nineteen F40 LM models built all shared the same engine as the normal F40, albeit a tad more impactful.
The mid-mounted twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V8 generated 720 hp, and since it got mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, it was a true bare-boned driver’s car – that is, if you can overlook its near-$5 million price tag.
17. Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale ~ $15 Million
They say just being beautiful doesn’t pay, but the Alfa Rome 33 Stradale sure is an exception to that rule. Although it was manically fast for the time, with a 24-second standing kilometer – the fastest at the time – its beauty was what solidified it in automotive history.
Just eighteen Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale models exist, and they all inhabited a 2.0-liter V8 engine that spewed out 227 hp and 152 lb-ft of torque. Despite it being rather timid on paper, the Alfa’s 1,543-lb curb weight made up for it. Currently, an Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale is valued at about $15 million.
16. Ferrari J50 ~ $3.6 Million
Like many top Italian automakers, Ferrari has always had a huge client base in Japan. In 2016, Ferrari decided to celebrate 50 years since it first sold a model in the Japanese market, resulting in the J50.
The J50 is a special version of the 488 Spider that Ferrari’s Special Projects department built. It had a unique design featuring sharp, angular lines and a two-piece carbon-fiber Targa top. The J50 used the same 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 as the 488 Spider, but had 681 hp – 20 hp more than the 488 Spider. A unit of the J50 got listed for sale for $3.6 million at Ferrari’s official Tokyo dealer in 2021.
15. Apollo Intensa Emozione ~ $2.6 Million
The Gumpert Apollo was one of the most trending topics in the 2000s automotive scene, thanks to its insane speed. Sadly, Gumpert couldn’t create a worthy successor, and it soon went out of business. Several years later, a Hong Kong company purchased the rights to use the Apollo name and established a new supercar production company using it.
The first car that came from the company was the Apollo Intensa Emozione. This fantastic supercar stole the headlines with its superb design and insane power – 780 hp, coming from a mighty Ferrari V12. It’s no surprise that it costs $2.6 million.
14. W Motors Lykan HyperSport ~ $3.4 Million
The W Motors Lykan HyperSport garnered its fame due to it starring in the seventh installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Furious 7. Ironically, only seven W Motors Lykan HyperSport examples exist. After all, its entire body gets handcrafted out of carbon fiber, its dihedral doors open up the wrong way, and it has 440 diamonds embezzled in its headlights.
On top of that, its twin-turbocharged flat-six develops 740 hp and 708 lb-ft of torque. In the real world, that means this ultra-rare hypercar can reach 60 mph from a standstill in under 3 seconds. The supercar costs a whopping $3.4 million.
13. Bugatti Type 41 La Royale ~ $9.7 Million
Bugatti is no stranger to building rare, high-performance supercars, but back in the day, they were more focused on luxury and opulence. Therefore, they made this, the Bugatti Type 41 La Royale.
The La Royale drew its first breath all the way back in 1926, and many people still regard it as the most over-the-top automobile in existence. This is due to its 14.1-foot wheelbase, near-20-foot length, and massive aircraft engine. Under the elongated hood lived a 12.8-liter straight-eight that churned out about 300 hp.
Only six Bugatti Type 41 La Royale models were ever made, and there will never be anything like it again. In 1987, a private owner bought a Royale for $9.7 million. If a Royale got sold today, it’ll easily become the most expensive car in the world.
12. Shelby Daytona Cobra ~ $7.25 Million
The main reason why the Ferrari 250 GTO is so iconic is its motorsport dominance. The 250 GTO was the king of the racing world in the early ’60s in the GT class, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans competition. Ford wanted to defeat the Ferrari in the GT class, so it built the Shelby Daytona Cobra in 1964.
The Daytona Cobra turned out to be one of the most successful American race cars, as it was the first American race car to win an international title at the 1965 FIA International Championship for GT Manufacturers. A 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe raked in a whopping $7.25 million at an auction in 2009.

Upon its release, the Veneno was among the most expensive cars in the world with a price tag of $4 million, however, years later when it got listed for sale in Dubai, the Veneno Roadster’s value got pegged at $9.5 million.
8. Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic ~ $100 Million
The production version of the Aerolithe concept, the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic was actually envisioned and brought to life by Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean Bugatti. With just four made, the Type 57SC Atlantic is arguably the most iconic Bugatti model ever, which further explains why it’s so expensive.

The ZL-1 was a special package that Chevy introduced in the 1969 model year to show gearheads just how fast the Corvette was capable of moving. The ZL-1 had a special all-aluminum V8 engine generating over 430 ponies, along with other cool upgrades that ensured drivers could handle the insane power.
However, since the ZL-1 package cost almost $5,000 more than the base model, only two gearheads bought it. In January 2023, one of the two cars was sold at an RM Sotheby’s auction for $3.14 million, becoming one of the most expensive Corvettes ever sold at auction.

At first glance, the Trevita looks nearly identical to other CCX models. However, there is much that only the trained eye notices.
Take for instance its paint, it’s like nothing else. See, its shiny paint features a diamond weave carbon fiber finish. It’s not only the looks that make the CCXR unique, its power plant is incredible too. Behind the driver nests a twin-turbocharged 4.7-liter V8 that puts out 1,065 hp and 797 lb-ft of torque.
Unfortunately, only two Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita models ever made it to production. Originally, Koenigsegg sold the CCXR for $4.8 million in 2010, meaning whoever wants it today must be willing to shell out something more significant than that.
3. Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé ~ $142.9 Million
Stunning, isn’t it? The Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé got its name from the creator and chief engineer behind its existence, Rudolf Uhlenhaut. Uhlenhaut was an automotive genius, and he fitted the 300 SLR Coupé with a Formula 1-inspired 3.0-liter inline-eight that put out 306 hp and 233 lb-ft of torque.
Only two real-world prototypes ever saw the light of day, and to this day, it remains one of the most iconic German sports cars ever created. After all, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé is currently the most expensive car ever sold at auction since it fetched 135 million Euros (about $142.9 Million) at RM Sotheby’s in 2022.
2. Ferrari 365 P Berlinetta Speciale “Tre Posti” ~ $22.5 Million

Unique in its design, the sports car features a donor racing chassis and McLaren F1’s famous cabin layout with a central driving position and three-seat arrangement.
